Position Summary: Communications and Campus Outreach Coordinator

Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA) is seeking a talented, dynamic, and passionate Communications and Campus Outreach Coordinator (half-time) to join our team of remote staff located across the United States. The Communications and Campus Outreach Coordinator will articulate and interface with our constituents on behalf of the organization’s development, programming, and organizing efforts.

Responsibilities

  1. Communications (in collaboration with the Executive Director and Executive Administrator):

    • Developing and implementing communications plans that will help facilitate campaign work, fundraising appeals, and membership recruitment

    • Further developing and implementing the organization’s overall communications strategy

    • Managing organizational social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) as well as the FOSNA website

    • Monitoring and analyzing social media and website metrics, and developing and implementing a social media strategy to expand organizational reach

    • Drafting public statements, petitions, emails, and press releases on behalf of the organization (including the production and distribution of weekly e-newsletters and seasonal print newsletters)

    • Ensuring consistent messaging and branding among communications platforms and among various programs

    • Identifying media outlets likely to cover Palestinian rights and the U.S. Palestinian solidarity movement. Establishing relationships with these outlets to capitalize on publicity opportunities for FOSNA

    • Developing a database of media outlets and PR related contacts

    • Supervising the work of possible volunteers or contracted staff on the communications team (copy editing or IT, for instance)

  2. Programs/Projects/Campaigns (in collaboration with the Executive Director and National Organizer):

    • Drafting and publicizing engaging and informative communications relevant to FOSNA programs, with the intent of galvanizing members

    • Working with program staff to identify and tell organizational stories

    • Managing communications-based advocacy and outreach tools such as petitions, conference materials, and webinars

    • Assisting with reaching out to and engaging diverse demographic communities (Youth & Young Adult, BIPOC, Latinx, AAPI) on behalf of Palestinian liberation while pursuing avenues for intersectional solidarity

  3. Development (in collaboration with the Executive Director and Development Director):

    • Setting goals and designing online fundraising campaigns

    • Formatting and designing mailing appeals

    • Submitting final, vetted files for print

    • Incorporating fundraising and membership recruitment components into communications, in line with development strategy

    • Writing appeal letters and emails

    • Developing relationships with a portfolio of FOSNA supporters and assist in regular development campaigns as needed

    • Assist in creating proposals, drafting success stories, and liaising with FOSNA supporters

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extremely strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong storytelling ability

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, find creative means of solving problems, respond to current events, and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite, etc.)

  • Understanding of branding and the development of an organizational voice

  • Experience working with a range of media outlets

  • Familiarity with online advocacy and communications platforms and content management systems like SalsaLabs, NationBuilder, etc.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team

  • Proactive approach to work; ability to notice what needs to be done and to develop a strategy for responding

  • Passionate about ending the occupation of Palestine and Israeli apartheid, opposing Zionism, understanding oppression from an intersectional lens, and advancing coalition building between marginalized communities in the United States

  • Graphic design and video editing experience
