Sabeel International Conference
Sabeel International Conference 2024: Challenging Religious Extremism
Sabeel Solidarity Pilgrimage
17 - 21 November 2024
Optional Pre-Pilgrimage Tour: November 11-16
Sabeel Palestinian Liberation Theology Center invites you to join us on a Solidarity Pilgrimage (16 - 21 November 2024) and Pre-Pilgrimage Tour (10 - 15 November)
Because of ongoing developments on the ground, these are reconfigurations – and taking the place – of the previously announced conference and preconference tour, “Challenging Religious Extremism.
The Solidarity Pilgrimage will put the principles of Palestinian Liberation Theology into practice as we visit, accompany, and listen to Palestinian communities that are suffering ever-escalating injustices.
The Pre-Pilgrimage Tour is being restructured to include some solidarity visits and some visits to religious sites.
Though these two events are being reconfigured to be more action-oriented than conceptual, the conference’s original subject matter, challenging religious extremism, will necessarily be considered because, as we know, Palestinian Liberation Theology is distinctive by virtue of its specific context, which includes religious extremism.
Our hope is that this Solidarity Pilgrimage will be like a family reunion–bringing both old and new members of the Sabeel family together. Whether you’ve been a longtime friend of Sabeel or whether this is your first trip, we hope you join us!
Schedule Summary
For the Pilgrimage, each day will involve visiting different Palestinian communities to listen and learn from them. Sometimes, there may also be an invitation to join in or co-create a concrete action of solidarity. For the Pre-Pilgrimage Tour, there will be some visits to religious sites and some solidarity visits. In the evenings, we will gather together to share a meal, followed by debriefings and discussions led by scholars or activists on topics essential for understanding the present context. In both groups, we will explore together how we can act for liberation and a just peace upon returning home.
Sabeel’s main priority is the safety of all participants, and our schedule will remain flexible to adapt to the ever-changing situation. Due to the current political instability, our day-to-day itinerary for both the Pilgrimage and the Pre-Pilgrimage Tour, is likely to change. Specific Itineraries and speakers schedules will are forthcoming.
