Join TIAA-CREF Campaign
Dear Fellow Members of Friends of Sabeel – North America:
Please consider joining Fosna and 21,000 others in taking a public stand against companies that profit from the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) has initiated the first national Jewish-sponsored divestment campaign in the U.S. because it believes that the Israel/Palestine conflict can only be brought to a stable and lasting closure, one that will be fair to both peoples, with concerted and sustained pressure from people, communities, large institutions, and ultimately nations.
TIAA-CREF was selected because it is a Fortune 100 financial services company and the leading retirement system for people who work in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields, as well as large non-profits. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A TIAA-CREF PARTICIPANT TO SIGN ON TO THE CAMPAIGN!
We are not asking plan participants to divest from TIAA-CREF. Instead, we want to persuade TIAA-CREF to divest from companies that profit from the Occupation which include the following firms that supply the Israeli military and support illegal Jewish settlements:
Northrop Gumman (parts for Apache Helicopters and radar for F-16 combat aircraft and Hellfire II Missiles)
Caterpillar (armored D9 bulldozers that demolish Palestinian homes)
Veolia (operates bus services on Jewish-only roads; contracted to operate a light rail system linking Jerusalem to the settlements)
Elbit (drones outfitted with missiles responsible for horrific casualties in the 2006 Lebanon war and the 2008-2009 Gaza Cast Lead operation)
Motorola (telecommunication equipment for the Israeli military; surveillance systems around settlements; checkpoints restricting the movement of Palestinians)
TIAA-CREF operates under the motto, “Financial Services for the Greater Good,” and proudly describes itself as “a global leader in socially responsible investing.” Its CREF Social Choice Account is “the largest comprehensively socially screened investment vehicle available to individual investors in the United States.” Earlier this year, it divested from four petrochemical companies that refused to stop doing business with Sudan. Yet even its Social Choice Account holds Caterpillar and Motorola.
Please sign the petition, as either a TIAA-CREF participant or campaign supporter.
