FOSNA Makes the "Top 10"
We've made the top ten!
On October 14th, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) published a list of "the 10 most influential and active anti-Israel groups in the U.S."
Friends of Sabeel-North America, along with other groups who educate and advocate for justice in the Holy Land, is among them.
We are proud that our own efforts have been judged so effective, but saddened that we should be considered a threat. The ADL, founded in 1913 "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all", should be our natural ally in the struggle for human rights, not an opponent.
The problem, of course, is that the current ADL leadership fears that criticism of Israeli government policies crucially undermines support for the state. But we believe it is the blatant injustice and brutality of Occupation and Settlement, not our criticism of these policies, that are undermining support for Israel and threatening its future.
The great Hebrew prophets taught that legitimacy is not something others can give; it is something that every nation must create for itself through its own just actions. In the light of this teaching, it is our faith that once justice is loosed "like an ever-flowing stream" from every corner of the Land, that mercy and peace will surely follow for all who call it Home.
